We've recently closed our AUD $35m Series B, and with it comes the next big chapter for our Product and Engineering team. We're hiring for senior engineering roles in Sydney and Vancouver, including full-stack engineers, DevOps, and QA, to help scale a product used and loved by 150+ law firms globally, including AmLaw 100 firms.

We wanted to do something more useful than list the reasons Nexl is a great place to work. So, we spoke with the engineers building our platform today and asked what it's really like to work at a fast-growing tech company, from how they collaborate to why this moment in Nexl's journey stands out.

High trust and ownership

Engineers at Nexl don't wait for permission to solve problems. They're trusted to take challenges end-to-end, choose the right approach, and ship with pace and accountability.

"There's no micromanagement here, we're trusted to get our work done. The autonomy is huge." Molly, Senior Frontend Engineer

Our engineering structure is intentionally flat and collaborative. Responsibilities rotate, the team runs their own unblock sessions, and engineers support each other's craft. Trust is a prerequisite for velocity here, and it's built into how the team works every day.

Low ego

Work is shared and discussed openly across squads. Every release cycle includes company-wide demos, where teams show what they've shipped, the lessons they picked up along the way, and what's coming next.

"There's no ego, just genuinely curious people who want to build good things together. Everyone shares ideas freely and supports each other." Francesca, Engineering Success Manager

Prioritizing career growth

Experimentation is encouraged and challenging existing patterns is normal at Nexl. Engineers take on real architectural ownership early, with the backing to see their decisions through.

"If you find a better way to build something, you get to own it. You don't have to wait for permission to innovate." Charlie, Full-Stack Engineer

Engineers tend to level up fast because they get exposure across the full stack, visibility across the entire business, direct influence on product direction, and ownership of real technical outcomes.

What we're building right now

Engineering at Nexl means solving problems like:

  1. AI-first product experiences, reimagining how lawyers and business development teams collaborate inside Nexl.
  2. Reusable frontend systems. "We built a server-side rendered table that's flexible and reusable, it'll be the foundation for future growth." Molly
  3. Stronger testing and release frameworks. "Seeing teams feel more confident heading into release cycles has been huge." Francesca
  4. AI embedded in daily workflows. From debugging and prototyping to translation and pattern exploration, AI works as a force multiplier here, speeding up how teams work while keeping human judgment at the center.

Nexl is at an inflection point where product complexity, customer scale, architecture, and global reach are all expanding at once. That creates real engineering challenges worth solving.

How we work

Flexibility has been part of Nexl's DNA from the beginning. As a globally distributed team, many engineers work remotely, while others collaborate in person throughout the week. As we scale into 2026, we're being intentional about creating more opportunities for engineers to come together in Sydney for deeper collaboration, while preserving the autonomy and flexibility Nexl is known for.

Why now

This is a rare moment. The company is scaling fast, engineering ownership is opening up, and the organization is still small enough that one person can shape its direction. The problems are complex and worth solving, the culture is strong, and our funding gives us room to invest deeply in engineering.

We hire experienced, high-performing engineers, people who have scaled systems, teams, or companies before and want to do it again with more ownership and influence. Nexl is a place for builders who care about craft, outcomes, and growing alongside the business.

"If you want to shape the future and be supported to grow, this is the best time to join." Gerard, Tech Lead

Come build the future of legal tech with us

We're hiring across Sydney and Vancouver for engineers who want high autonomy, real product impact, a low-ego team, a culture of ownership, influence over architecture and velocity, and work that is career-defining.
