A traditional CRM is a database for storing contacts. A growth system is built around how lawyers actually work. It captures relationships automatically, embeds prompts in Outlook and on mobile, replaces three to four disconnected tools (CRM, ERM, email marketing, events, pipeline), and pairs the technology with hands-on support and an optional structured program so adoption holds over time.

The Rethinking Rainmakers benchmark study, published by Camojee and Nexl in 2025, surveyed 235 BD leaders across 202 professional services firms representing more than 130,000 employees. It found that firms with mature, systematic BD cultures grow revenue 42% faster than rainmaker-dependent firms, alongside 60% less client churn, 50% better marketing ROI, and significantly higher lateral hire success.

Nexl is built for law firms with maturing or structured business development functions, typically 100 or more lawyers. It serves three primary audiences: partners and lawyers who need to do BD without changing their routine, BD and marketing professionals who need tools lawyers will actually adopt, and managing partners who need firmwide visibility into relationships, pipeline and growth.

Because Nexl is built into the tools lawyers already use. The Outlook add-in captures contacts and interactions automatically with no manual data entry. The mobile app makes it possible to review meetings, log notes by voice and act on stay-in-touch reminders between matters. Prompts and AI summaries fit a lawyer's day rather than asking them to change it.

Most firms use Nexl to consolidate three or four systems into one: a legal CRM, relationship intelligence or ERM, email marketing, event management, and pipeline tracking.

The growth program is an optional structured curriculum that helps lawyers build lasting BD habits using Nexl. It runs across four phases (Commit, Focus, Engage, Grow) covering 12 modules, with each module pairing a BD concept with a specific action inside the platform. It is available in two delivery models: a white-glove track with facilitated cohorts and 1:1 coaching, or a self-led track with digital playbooks and automated reinforcement.

Every firm gets hands-on implementation, including platform configuration tailored to practice areas, data migration and training for each user group. Each customer is assigned a dedicated success partner who meets regularly, tracks usage and impact, and tunes the system as the firm grows.
